Good Nutritional Tips!

Good Nutritional Tips!

Hi everyone! This is a great page of nutritional tips from the CrossFit Gym by me! Of course dietary needs should be discussed with a professional but these are the ones i personally work off of and believe in for a STRONGER body.  It is important to feed your body what it needs to develop muscle growth and endurance. It is also important to know exactly what you are putting into your body and why, a slightly off diet can completely ruin a good training plan.  Please remember to eat enough and eat the right stuff!

CrossFit Games

CrossFit Games

Check it out! These are the CrossFit Games, I’m sure some of you have seen them on ESPN!  They are competitions centered around cross training, thus meaning, training your body to be as fit as possible.  To do this, it is key to train (then compete) without routine, making sure the body does not develop habits but instead is constantly working everything as a whole in different ways making everything in peak condition.  This is incredibly hard and dedicated, those who train for it say its a full time job, which it totally is, but totally worth it too! It is insane to see what your body is truly capable of!

Big Chill! 2013

Big Chill! 2013

Any Rutgers followers running the Big Chill this Sunday? The Big Chill is a 5k race put on every year by the Rutgers Recreation Department in New Brunswick. Registration is free! Your entry fee is a present to a child a need. I have done this race for many years and after traveling all over for various races of various lengths this is still one of my favorites. It is for a great cause and always draws THOUSANDS of runners. It is over my home running terrain and always sends of tons of positive energy. (Being that it is always at the end of the first semester probably helps with that too.) If you are in the area check it out!

Because sometimes you can’t workout

As much as I rave about being able to workout everyday, I know, sometimes it just cannot happen.  Being a costume designer, the last few days my show has been in what’s called tech rehearsals.  These rehearsals are about 14 hours a day, breaks are for eating and getting more on the show done.  Needless to say they are draining and leave no time for a healthy workout, we all know rest is just as important.  However I really find myself getting down when I cannot squeeze a workout in.  How do you guys cope with the busy blues?

Winter Running Shoe Guide

Winter Running Shoe Guide

It’s that time of year! Better ask Santa, or work a few extra hours, and treat yourself to those new running shoes!  I personally recommend Mizuno, they have always been great sneakers and their website offers a very well made quiz about figuring out the best shoe for your running pattern.  But here is the Runners World List, what shoes do you prefer or want to try?

Aerial Movement

Aerial Movement

When most people think of working out, they think of the dreaded long run in the freezing cold, or that awkward waiting for a bench in front of the free weights at the gym.  While plenty of people don’t mind this, or rather the opposite, enjoy it.  It is understandable that it’s not for everyone.  With that being said, please keep an open mind, there are plenty of other ways to get your body up and moving without it seeming like work!

A friend of mine found this studio called Dakini a few years ago, and has been avidly participating ever since.  What does she do? Fitness pole dancing!  A VERY strength intensive activity, it help builds up a very healthy body without the usual idea of working out with reps, sets, and miles.  The studio also offers a variety of classes for anything you want to specifically train, with personal trainers and healthy nutrition plans to keep you on track. Whether you want to increase cardio, strength and conditioning, there are specifics geared towards everything.

So keep your minds open for fitness, chances are there is something out there you will enjoy!

Guys, it’s Thanksgiving

So, as every health nut out there knows, the holidays are coming!  What a great time to just pig out!  How do you guys deal with the holiday season?  With Thanksgiving being this week, I am always interested in seeing how people handle the food intake and time off.  Obviously, it IS a holiday, so no harm in taking the day off!  Rest days and cheat days are just as important to the body as working out.  Moderation, not deprivation as I always say.

Thanksgiving has also become a host of a lot of local fun runs.  Chances are your community or one around you has a Turkey Trot 5k!  It’s always possible to squeeze in a workout in the morning of Thanksgiving as well.  Or it can just be your day to sit back, relax, and enjoy the family and food!  So how are you guys spending your Thanksgiving?? A day off? Or health conscious?
